Russian sage

By the end of last summer, these two plants had become very tall and lanky, kind of unpleasant-looking, and made me wonder whether they were a bad decision. I cut them down to almost nothing a few weeks ago, and they’re rewarding me. In Italy I saw Russian sage used in rain gardens, and it looked very happy, so hopefully this summer it’ll feel more at home.
